I have been making this simple, aurevedic healing recipe for years now, with only slight variations. It’s easy and delicious, plus turmeric is so good for you. Instead of ghee, I use earth balance organic buttery spread.
Also, if you want a little more substance to your dahl, I enjoy adding a finely diced and peeled sweet potato into the mix. Let it cook with the lentils and spices from the start.
I usually enjoy this dish with a fresh salad, but if you want to make more of a meal out of it, I serve it on top of an either a hearty brown rice or an easy saffron rice. Just prepare Jasmine rice normally, only before bringing to a boil, add earth balance or coconut oil, a cardamon seed, a pinch of really good saffron and a drop of rose syrup. (You can get it at any Indian grocery store). It’s really yummy.
